Methane Reduction Technology Solution Wins ERA Funding

Gentherm Global Power Technologies Methane Reduction Technology Solution Wins ERA Funding

ERA (Emissions Reduction Alberta) has announced the winning proposals for the ERA Methane Challenge – a funding program targeted at reducing methane emissions in Alberta through the development of new technologies.  Gentherm Global Power Technologies’ Remote Generator Compressor System (RGCS) proposal was one of 12 projects to receive funding out of 118 submissions.

The RGCS is a self-contained, skid-mounted solution designed to help oil and gas operators eliminate methane emissions from pneumatic devices at off-grid facilities.  By efficiently converting natural gas into compressed air and 24V DC electric power, the RGCS enables facility operators to quickly convert their existing pneumatic devices to instrument air while facilitating the long-term transition to digital controls.

By using the RGCS to convert pneumatic devices to instrument air, facility operators can realize a 1000:1 reduction in CO2e emissions.  In the near-term, facility operators can avoid natural gas wastage and generate revenue through offset credits based on avoided emissions.  Longer-term, the RGCS will help operators avoid significant carbon tax expenses.

While Gentherm Global Power Technologies currently manufactures and provides remote power solutions that can eliminate methane emissions from pneumatic devices, the RGCS will address a much broader range of applications.  Due for release in 2020, the RGCS leverages innovative energy conversion technology to deliver high efficiency and power output.
